Fresh tamarind pods grown from tamarind tree are fruits with hard, brown shell. The length of these pods ranges from 2 to 15 cm (3 to 6 inches). Late spring and early summer are the best season to get fresh tamarind pods. One can obtain brown or reddish-brown color juicy and fleshy pulp from these pods. This pulp can be used in curries, soups, sauces, syrups, jams, ice-creams, etc. Apart from culinary uses, the fresh tamarind pods also have traditional medicinal uses, as it contains many essential minerals, vitamins and dietary fiber.
